Ryne in his first highchair at Glenn's Diner
Looking for a reason to leave your sweet Ravenswood condo or single family home? Jillian and I were today with our few precious days off we took for the holiday season. We always have big plans, but end up walking the neighborhood for a good brunch. I guess we wouldn't have it any other way. I mean, you can walk the Lincoln Square, Andersonville and Ravenswood retail and restaurants any day in our location. There always seems to be something new to check out.
We actually set out to walk to Roscoe Village for Orange... about an 18 block walk. No kidding, but with the baby this is the only exercise we get. And the kid loves it. He barely makes a peep when we are walking except to shake his legs and arms and laugh a little.
But as we crossed Montrose, I tipped off Jillian on Glenn's. I went there with clients not long ago and the place really nailed it. The client's are new to the City but scoped this place out for the seafood. I just like anything that is a diner. They have a pretty aggressive mix of items but they hit on all out lunches that day. So, we decided to cut the first half of the walk short and eat there.
Photo by Lacie GAwesome as usual... we got there at opening (11AM) and the place had a good flow of people for a Thursday afternoon after Christmas. Great atmosphere with the music (very important I think), chalk board specials, warm woody interior etc... It just seems to get most things right. Good with the kid too.
I recommend seafood, steak, brunch, whatever. This will definitely be a regular. Gives us a reason to take a walk and get a high quality meal. Prices are actually very reasonable as well which doesn't hurt. Glenn's Diner is located at 1820 W. Montrose Ave., right at the newly renovated Montrose "L" station.
