Grow47 Expands Beyond Ward Boundaries

Grow47 is a community led effort founded in 2011 by Alderman Ameya Pawar (47^th) to support and strengthen the K-12 educational experience in Chicago’s 47^th Ward. This Saturday morning, February 7, the Grow47 initiative will break through ward boundaries to a wider community effort around our neighborhood schools.

Aldermen Patrick O’Connor (40^th) and Tom Tunney (44^th) are partnering with Alderman Pawar to expand this important neighborhood school initiative to bring greater focus and more resources to the area’s neighborhood high schools: Amundsen and Lake View. A primary goal for the expanded initiative is to reduce or eliminate the stress of CPS’ high school selective enrollment process by ensuring that all students in our community have access to equitable resources and quality educational opportunities in their own neighborhoods.

Please help us launch this important new initiative and bring attention to the need for better-resourced neighborhood high schools for all our children.

Alderman O'Connor throws first pitch at new Winnemac Park baseball

I had the pleasure to stop by and watch the first pitch ceremony at the inaugural season of fall baseball at Winnemac Park.  Welles Park Parent Association (WPPA) member Steven Reynolds brought together Welles Park Baseball, Amundsen High School, the 40th Ward Alderman's office and the Chicago Park District to meet the demand for youth baseball at Winnemac Park.  Over 350 kids signed up quickly!

Families gathered around three diamonds of baseball action.  The new baseball league is a source of revenue, great for exposure to the park, displays quality of life in the neighborhood and is good for local business.

Winnemac Park is a large, beautiful park with unique prairie paths.  Neighbors are working together to bring more youth programs to the park to meet the local demand of park users. See more of my posts from around Winnemac Park!
