Making the goods at Lill Street Art Center, Ravenswood

We've been all sports, sports, sports with our kids but my daughter's penchant for artistic endeavors could no longer be denied.  We enrolled our plucky eight year old in a pottery class at Lill Street Art Center in the Ravenswood area of Uptown. What a great experience it has been!

Hopefully she is making me a coffee cup! We can't wait to see her creations and enroll in more painting and pottery classes (after the winter basketball season of course).  Thanks to the Lill Street instructors for providing a terrific environment for our kids.

In the Loop: Downtown public art the Thompson Center

Monument with Standing Beast in front of the Thompson Center. One of the joys of walking downtown with the kids are the many public art installations. The kids get a look at art and of course play on it too.

 

This way to Hamburg! Chicago Sister City signs at Francis Parker

Lincoln Park is dotted with public art.  These signs in front of the Francis W. Parker School along North Clark Street at West Webster represent Chicago's Sister City relationships around the world.  Better yet, they gave me a great opportunity to talk about other countries with my kids as we stopped and looked at our favorite signs.

Bob hit East Lincoln Park/ Old Town Triangle this morning for a final walk-through before our client's closing.  One of our favorite things about Lincoln Park is the public and private art you can view while walking around town.

One of a Kind Show NOW at the Merchandise Mart!

Chicago's One of a Kind Show (or extravaganza!) begins tonight through this weekend, December 2-5, 2010. More than 600 artists from across North America are represented.

Ravenswood ArtWalk this weekend!

The 9th Annual Ravenswood ArtWalk is being held this weekend, October 2nd and 3rd 2010. One of the more unique North Side events, the ArtWalk allows the public to visit the many working artist studios and cool industrial spaces. Lots of entertainment too!

One of the cooler features of the weekend will be an architectural trolley tour.

Architectural Trolley Tour: A free trolley, sponsored by Alderman Gene Schulter of the 47th Ward, will be running continuously throughout the weekend. On board will be a representative from Ravenswood Lake View Historical Association highlighting the architectural significance and historical information on the multitude of buildings that are in the Ravenswood Corridor.

Art Walk Ravenswood: Ann Ponce Studio

While visiting the many vendors and studios of ArtWalk Ravenswood last weekend, we quite enjoyed meeting artist Ann Ponce at her studio at 1819 W Wilson, Chicago 60640.

With roots firmly planted in Ravenswood, Jillian and I have turned to collecting more art for our home. The goal is to balance works from our travels with local art pieces mainly. Ann's studio caught our eye. I particularly liked a landscape painting of a farm located not too far from Chicago.

Ann's working studio compliments the many local businesses in Ravenswood... so many of which we don't even realize they are there! Please visit Ann Ponce for affordable gifts of original art. There could be no more thoughtfulness than having a portrait painted of a family member.
