Golfing for Northeastern Illinois University scholarships!

I was excited to once again sponsor and serve on the planning committee for the 51st Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event with Northeastern Illinois University. The event was hosted at beautiful Bryn Mawr Country Club on July 29th. I had a great group of clients and business associates join me to compete for the 1st Place Golden Eagle Bobblehead (we were not close).

This was our first year at Bryn Mawr Country Club on Chicago's North Side and we could not had a better facility.  The lounge, bar, locker rooms, patio and banquet areas are fantastic.  The course is in terrific condition and the fore caddies that were super fun!

We heard from our newly hired university President Katrina Bell-Jordan  in her first official event with NEIU! The student scholarship recipient speakers at the dinner program were phenomenal!

After graduating from Northeastern Illinois University in the North Park neighborhood of Chicago I've had the chance to be involved with the university on many levels.  This year my colleagues and I took the opportunity to step up our contributions. Kale Realty, Inkt Marketing and Steve Dunnett of Blueleaf Lending are the Northeastern Illinois University Welcome Sponsors for this year's Chuck Kane Scholarship Golf Event this Monday June 18th, 2018.  

I joined alumni Ellen Larrimore and Chuck Good to establish the new Alumni Travel Study Scholarship.

Proceeds from our sponsorship will support the newly established Alumni Study Tour Scholarship.

I'm happy to say I received my college degree from Northeastern Illinois University.  The many scholarship opportunities, affordable tuition, professors and administrators all helped achieve my degree in three years debt free. From time to time I step back and try to describe everyday city life for myself and our family in Chicago.  I hope to add more of these vignettes with a little real estate context each week. 

I have no official data but I can't imagine it made easier to golf within another major city.  In about 10 minutes from leaving Lincoln Square early Wednesday morning I was parking at Sidney Morovitz Golf Course on the lakefront. The well maintained course offers both city and lake views.  It's a great way to play before work (or work while playing as I tell my wife).

Steve Dunnett, Senior Mortgage Consultant at Blueleaf Lending (sdunnett@blueleaflending.com) lines up the par three over the swamp.  He hit the green!  Steve gets me up to date on loan programs and issues while tearing up the course.

Our playing partner Brian (a construction project manager) tees off down the home stretch along lakefront running paths. Brian rode his bike over with a light golf bag.

If you get out early, Marovitz is a convenient course for those working or living around downtown, north side or south side.  There is no traffic on Lake Shore Drive coming in before 7:00 am and leaving the course just after 9:00am.  Steve's office is in the West Loop so we headed 5 minutes south on LSD from the course to an old favorite Nookies in Old Town for breakfast.

I really like aspects of the burbs.  But I can't imagine not having easy access to just about anything I need or like by walking, bike, train or quick car ride throughout my regular day. To easily mix in golf, architecture, good food (on every corner) and business in a few hours and be back at my home office in minutes can't be beat! Less time in the car, more time on the streets seeing property too.

North Side golf and then lunch in Andersonville

Living and doing business in Chicago is great.  I had a nice "meeting" with a few business associates at Robert Black golf course in West Ridge (2045 W Pratt) on the north side of Chicago.  The Chicago Park District course is a fun and attractive 9 hole challenge.  I've been playing here for years but the facility and course seem better than ever.

Our players came from downtown, North Center and Lincoln Square (5 min drive from Lincoln Square down Western Avenue).  There is a nice peaceful park setting at Robert Black that gives you the feeling you've left the city.  Easy free parking in the lot and the clubhouse is nice.

After tearing it up, we headed another 5 minutes southeast to Andersonville for lunch on North Clark Street.  There are dozens of spots for a quick bite or nice sit down "business" lunch.  We did discuss the home listing of one of our players and caught up on current mortgage lending with Mortgage Loan Professional Steve Dunnett.

Take the opportunity to enjoy the Chicago parks, courses, lakefront paths and restaurants whenever you can.  Especially when doing business!
