More Green Construction in Ravenswood: Geothermal Energy

It was cold Wednesday... but I've had a little cabin fever so I packed up Ryne and we went for a walk to the bank.

On the way we saw this new construction single family home located on the 4900 block of North Ravenswood features (or will feature) geothermal energy. The Optimal Energy company advertises "saving up to 70% heating, cooling and water costs". It is renewable energy from the earth that also reduces a home's carbon footprint

Here's an easy read article (for the likes of me) on geothermal energy. I've also read in several articles it can be about 5 years to recoup the upfront costs of installing a geothermal system for your home over a traditional HVAC system. And you can sleep easier knowing you (hopefully) did the right thing
